Overview

Natural delivery can refer to various methods of giving birth without pain medication. In some cases, this means not taking painkillers during labor but getting other medical help, such as keeping an eye on the baby's heart rate or fetal heart monitoring. Or it can mean not getting any help from doctors at all.

If you think it's impossible to have a baby without the use of medication, no, it's not! Women in ancient times delivered their babies naturally.

We will talk about The Most Frequently Asked Questions About Natural Birth to learn more about this birth method. Each question may not apply to you, and you may have queries unique to your position or interests.

Frequently Asked Questions About Natural Birth

Consider the following labor and delivery interview questions that are frequently asked about natural births. Below is a list to help you with your decision to choose a natural birthing plan.

1. Why Would a Woman Choose to Have a Natural Birth?

Among the questions to ask midwives before birth is why choose natural childbirth? There may be reasons why a woman decides to have a natural birth.

Some women prefer a "natural" delivery because they want more control over their labor, including how they deal with pain. Or, they might think that if they don't take any medicine, they'll feel more connected to the birthing process and remember it more clearly. They said that despite the discomfort, the process was worthwhile.

2. Where Can I Birth Naturally?

Some women who desire a natural birth method deliver at birth centers. They can roam about, find comfortable postures, and relax in the tub or jacuzzi. Handheld ultrasounds are used so the baby will be checked often.

In many hospitals, delivering a baby more naturally is possible. Some hospitals offer natural birthing centers with medical assistance accessible. Low-risk births can be performed in the comfort of your home. Consult your midwife or doctor to see if home birth is safe for you.

3 What Are the Risks of Natural Childbirth?

So, one of the questions to ask midwives before birth is, what are the risks of this delivery method? You and your baby need to be open to other options for your health.

Not to emphasize the obvious, but you will experience discomfort. You can't predict how much pain you'll be in or how well you'll be able to handle it during labor, even if you've already given birth before.

Whether you use painkillers or not, there is always a chance that something could go wrong, excessive blood loss, or trouble with the umbilical cord. Not getting medical help could put your life and your baby at serious risk in an emergency.

4. Why Is a Natural Birth, Not Your Best Choice?

If you're considering a natural birth delivery, one of the pregnancy questions is whether this birth method applies to you. Not everyone is a good candidate for this birth plan. Patients with healthy pregnancies and no complications or chronic conditions are good fits to attempt a natural childbirth.

If you are pregnant and your health is at risk, your doctor may tell you not to have a natural birth. Your pregnancy may be high risk if:

  • You're carrying more than one baby.
  • Have had some problems during pregnancy, like slow fetal growth or problems with the placenta.
  • You're over 35 years old.
  • Used drugs or drank alcohol while pregnant.
  • Have undergone previous uterine surgery, such as a C-section.
  • Have a history of health problems like diabetes, preeclampsia, or problems with blood clotting.

5. What Methods Can I Use to Relieve the Pain?

One of the questions to ask during labor and delivery is if there is an alternative painkiller since natural birth is supposed to be without medication.

For relieving pain, there are other options besides taking medicine. Ask your midwife about what you can do and what's available where you'll give birth.

Some natural ways to deal with pain are

  • Use strategies for breathing
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Warm bath or shower.
  • Finding the position that makes you feel best
  • Music or games are ways to get your mind off something.
  • Pad for heat or cold
  • Massage
  • Acupressure
  • Emotional support

6. What Happens if I Change My Mind?

The questions to ask your ob-gyn about labor will be, what if you change your mind during labor? What if the labor is worse than expected?

When in too much pain, some women who don't want painkillers change their minds. It happens and is understandable. If the discomfort is too intense, ask for painkillers. Be adaptable if plans change.

As long as the baby's head hasn't emerged, you can take pain medicine. You may get an
epidural or spinal block early in labor. Painkillers like narcotics soothe labor pain without numbing it. The baby won't be affected.
